City of West Torrens 22 November 2005 Mr Antonios Symeonakis ---------------------------- ----------------------------
Dear Mr Symeonakis
Food Complaint-Packaged Ham with Expired Use-By Date
Reference is made to the food complaint submitted to Council regarding packaged ham purchased by you at Foodland Torrensville with "use-by" date. Further to receiving the complaint, an investigation and inspection of the store was undertaken in conjunction with the store manager Randall Meyers. The investigation found that all Foodland staff members have been trained on stock rotation procedures. The product display area is checked twice weekly by staff to ensure all foods are within their marked use by dates, as well as a merchandise representative from the food company visiting the store weekly to rotate stock and check use-by dates. It is unfortunate that despite these prosedures being in place the item you purchased had an expired use-by date. To address the problem, the store manager has assured Council that the current procedures will be reviewed, including re-education all staff on adequate stock rotation and its importance in food safety.Council has indicated to the store manager that should further incidents occur legal action may be taken I trust you will find the outcome satisfactory. Should you require further information please contact me on---------
Yours sincerely
